Why WordPress?

Why build your site with WordPress?

WordPress is the most widely used content management system in the world. For an independent professional or a small business, its advantages are very practical: independence, freedom, and room to grow.

  • You update your site yourself

Text, photos, pages, news: everything is managed from an admin dashboard, without writing a single line of code.

  • You’re not locked in

WordPress is open-source software, known by a great many professionals. Your content and your domain name belong to you, and if you ever switch providers, I’ll hand over the access you need.

  • It grows with your business

Many plugins let you add a feature when the time comes: a form, bookings, a newsletter, or an online store with WooCommerce.

  • A budget you control

The software is free: you pay for building your site, its hosting, and, if you want, its maintenance.

Independence

Manage your everyday content yourself, training included

A useful website is an up-to-date website: your hours, your services, photos of your latest work. With WordPress, these changes require neither technical skills nor help from a web provider: you make them yourself, whenever you want.

At handover, I train you on how to use your site. The training is included in the price and covers your own site, to help you manage your everyday content yourself. With WordPress, you can, for example:

  • edit text, a price, or your opening hours
  • replace or add photos
  • add a page, a news post, or a portfolio project
  • update your contact details and your services
  • with WooCommerce, manage your products and orders

Would you rather delegate? I can make the changes for you, at €50 excl. VAT per hour, or as part of an annual maintenance plan (€500 excl. VAT per year, with the details set out in the quote).

Plugins and security

Plugins and security: a solid, up-to-date WordPress site

WordPress sometimes has a reputation for being vulnerable. In practice, problems mostly come from sites left without updates or loaded with questionable plugins. A few simple rules make all the difference.

  1. Few plugins, but the right ones

Every plugin adds code to maintain. A healthy site keeps only the ones it really needs, chosen from plugins that are actively maintained and regularly updated.

  2. Never a pirated version

Premium themes and plugins handed out for free outside official channels often contain malicious code. They have no place on a professional website.

  3. Regular updates

Updates to WordPress, the theme, and the plugins fix known vulnerabilities: applying them regularly is your first line of defense.

  4. Backups, stored separately

A recent backup, kept outside the site, lets you roll back if something goes wrong.

  5. Protected access

Strong passwords, and administrator accounts reserved for the people who really need them.

Comparison

WordPress or a custom-coded site: an honest comparison

WordPress isn’t the answer to everything. Here are its strengths and its limitations, so you can make an informed choice.

WordPress’s strengths

  • You edit your content yourself, without code
  • A lower starting budget than a custom-coded site
  • Lots of plugins to add features later
  • Open-source software, known by many professionals: you’re not locked in
  • An online store is possible with WooCommerce

Its limitations, frankly

  • Updates to keep up with over time: WordPress, the theme, and the plugins.
  • A site that gets heavier if you keep piling on plugins.
  • A design that starts from a theme, so it offers less freedom than a hand-coded site.
  • Very specific needs (advanced booking, client portal, marketplace) are better served by custom development.

Pricing

Your WordPress site, ready to go

A clear starting price, shown excluding VAT. The exact price depends on the number of pages, the features, and the content to add: it’s set out in a free quote, before you commit to anything.

WordPress business website

The more affordable alternative, for independent professionals and small businesses who want to edit their own text and photos.

from €1,099 excl. VAT

  • WordPress site that works on phones and tablets
  • You edit your text and photos yourself
  • Google search basics
  • Launch, hosting, and domain name for the first year
  • Training on how to use your site

Estimated timeline: 1–2 weeks

An online store?

I prefer to custom-code it (priced on quote). WooCommerce, which turns WordPress into an online store, is still an alternative: product catalog, cart, payment, and order tracking. Online stores from €2,700 excl. VAT.

Ecommerce website design

Already have a WordPress site?

Is your site dated, slow, or poorly ranked? I’ll modernize it, then I can keep it updated, backed up, and secure.

Website redesign

Migration

Moving from Wix or Jimdo to WordPress: possible, priced on quote

Built your site yourself on Wix or Jimdo, and it’s no longer enough? Switching to WordPress is possible, priced on quote. In general, these platforms don’t let you export a site as is to WordPress: your content (text, images) is carried over, then added to a new, properly built site.

It’s also a chance to start fresh with a clearer structure for your visitors and for Google.

What we check together

  • Your domain name If it was bought through the platform, it generally needs to be transferred: we check the steps to follow.
  • Your search rankings The old URLs of your pages are redirected to the new ones (301 redirects), so you lose neither your visitors nor your position on Google.
  • Your email addresses and tools Email addresses tied to the domain name, forms, bookings: nothing should stop working on switchover day.

FAQ

Common questions about WordPress

Have another question? See the full FAQ or call +32 456 96 02 13.

Is WordPress free?

Yes: the WordPress software is open source and free. What costs money is building the site (from €1,099 excl. VAT for a WordPress business website), its hosting and domain name (included for the first year, then renewed every year), and, if your project needs them, certain premium plugins or themes, which are then listed in the quote.

Can I update my WordPress site without technical skills?

Yes. WordPress is designed so you can edit your text, photos, and pages from an admin dashboard, without writing any code. Training on how to use your site is included at handover. And if a change seems too tricky, you can hand it over to me (€50 excl. VAT per hour).

Is a WordPress site secure?

Yes, if it’s well built and well maintained. Security problems mostly affect sites left without updates or loaded with unreliable plugins. So a WordPress site needs regular updates and backups: you can handle them yourself, or leave them to me as part of maintenance (€50 excl. VAT per hour, or a €500 excl. VAT annual plan).

Can you move my Wix or Jimdo site to WordPress?

It’s possible, priced on quote. In general, a Wix or Jimdo site can’t be exported as is: its content (text, images) is carried over into a new WordPress site, and the old URLs are redirected to the new ones to preserve your search rankings. We’ll also check together how to keep your domain name.

Is WordPress a good fit for an online store?

Yes, with WooCommerce, the WordPress online store plugin: product catalog, cart, payment, and order tracking. For a store, though, I prefer custom development, priced on quote; WooCommerce and PrestaShop are still good alternatives. An online store starts at €2,700 excl. VAT: we choose the solution together during the discovery call.

Do you also work on existing WordPress sites?

Yes. I can modernize a dated, slow, or poorly ranked WordPress site (a redesign), or handle its maintenance and updates. Let’s talk about it on a free discovery call: the quote then spells out what will be done, and for what price.
